2: Refusal of the Call

Faced with the unknown, the hero hesitates. Fear, doubt, duty, or simple comfort make the adventure look dangerous or irresponsible. The Refusal shows us what the hero stands to lose and how tightly they are bound to their old world.

This resistance makes the eventual choice meaningful; when the hero goes, it is not because the risk vanished, but because something mattered more.
