3: Meeting the Mentor

A mentor arrives in some form: teacher, friend, stranger, book, memory, or dream. This figure offers tools, knowledge, or faith the hero does not yet have, helping them see that the journey might be survivable — and worth the risk.

The mentor does not walk the whole road, but they light the first steps and frame the stakes of what’s ahead.
