The hero now moves toward the heart of the story’s danger: the “inmost cave.” This may be a physical stronghold, a difficult conversation, a buried memory, or a system that must be confronted. Preparation intensifies; plans are made, doubts return, stakes are clarified.

This stage gathers tension. It is the breath held before the plunge into the ordeal that will change everything.
